How My Daughter Studies in College! It’s what SHE did.
Good grades take effort, especially in college. I never really knew the ins and outs of Maddie’s study habits until I dug deeper and asked for her notebook! I was impressed with the time and effort she put in and wanted to share with others.
Take Handwritten Notes
Most, if not all, of the professors will post their notes online. That seems like a convenience, but Maddie said it’s still important for her to hand write them all. Writing the notes herself is a way for her to soak up the information and she said she learns better that way.
Highlight Key Terms & Definitions
These highlighted parts will be included in the next step when making a study guide. There’s no right or wrong way – just what works for you to learn and retain the material. Highlighting is another way to reread the info and pick out what you want to include for the next step of studying.
Create a Study Guide
Using the handwritten notes that have been highlighted, Maddie types what she calls a “Study Guide” for her to complete and then read over. It reminds me of worksheets a teacher would make with fill in the blanks, matching definitions, and questions.
Review, Read Aloud, Repeat
After she fills in all of the blanks and completes the study guide, she reads it over many times out loud. Maddie said it’s important to read it out loud as the final step to the studying process because it helps her focus and remember the material.
🥰
I feel blessed that I have a daughter who humored me and agreed to answer 4 interview questions about studying!! Here she is, love you Maddie!
Happy studying! GO NOLES! 🏹
