Teepee Glamping Vacay in Utah
This trip was amazing! I have to share all of the details!
My husband’s 37th birthday was approaching and we wanted to celebrate in a unique way. I knew I wanted to plan a glamping trip for him and started researching different locations. When I found the resort in Capitol Reef National Park, located in Torrey, Utah, I fell in love and knew my husband would too!
Why a teepee?
Why not!? The teepees were a draw to us because my husband travels almost weekly for business and stays in hotels. We also go on weekend trips frequently together so the draw of a nice hotel for his birthday just didn’t meet the mark for this particular trip.
What do they look like inside?
Inside the teepees include a queen size bed, dressers, a small table with chairs, a makeup mirror, AC/heat, large flat screen TV, and plenty of electricity to charge your phones.
Can you lock the teepee?
The teepee entrance is a flap of canvas you zip open and close. It has a small padlock on the door.
Where do you go to the bathroom?
Behind the teepee is where our private bathroom is located. We used an access card like a hotel key to get into our bathroom. It was very nice and had all the modern conveniences of a hotel – including a Keurig! Although it wasn’t located inside the teepee, it was just steps away. Really roughing it!
Where do you eat?
The resort has an on sight restaurant called Pioneer Kitchen. It’s nothing fancy but it’s convenient for a buffet breakfast in the morning before hiking. We ate here once for dinner and it wasn’t great, but we also didn’t come camping for the five star cuisine so it was fine.
S’more kits are available for purchase at the resort gift shop located in the lobby. It was fun and perfect chilly weather.
We ate at a hole in the wall Curry Pizza place that was featured on the show Diners, Drive In’s, and Dives for lunch one day. Highly recommend, it was super delicious!
What is there to do?
Hiking!!
There’s lots of other things to do too, but hiking should be your top priority! The views are breathtaking and it’s an incredible experience to share with someone.
This was both of our first times hiking like this. It’s important you come prepared and pack accordingly! Here is my suggested packing list for someone traveling in September:
We hiked two days and saw so many beautiful spots. We could go back 10 times and still not see it all!
Horseback riding!
This was a great way to see the park while having a little adventure. The horses were very well trained and easy to ride. The trails were fun and the views were amazing. We went 5:30-7:30pm our last night while the sun set.
There’s also llama treking, Jeep tours, guided day tours and more. You don’t have to just use the resort for activities. Check out trip advisor for other tours available.
Other advice?
It’s ok to over pack. The weather in the morning and evening is cold and during the day is hot. You need multiple outfits per day.
Bring your own booze! It’s easier to wind down at the campfire and in your teepee with your own private stash. Also bring snacks!
Pack comfortable and cute pajamas that you can wear around the campfire in front of others or at breakfast. Make sure to dress warm because it gets cool at night and in the morning. Also it’s a good idea to bring a pair of slippers with rubber soles.
Book all of your excursions at least 1-2 months prior (earlier if possible). Tours fill up, especially the best ones!
Research trails ahead of time and prioritize your time! Make a plan so you see everything you want to!
Enjoy it and each other. We did and can’t wait to see our next National Park!
